THE JAMES PAPPOUTSAKIS FLUTE COMPETITION
The James Pappoutsakis Flute Competition was begun in 1980 to honor the memory of Mr. Pappoutsakis, a Boston Symphony Orchestra flutist for almost 40 years. The competition consists of a preliminary round, with contestants playing behind a screen, and the final round, which is open to the public. Each year the Competition commissions a composition for the final round. Flute students studying in the fall semester at the Berklee College, Boston Conservatory, Boston University, Longy School of Music and the New England Conservatory are eligible.
